Article I

Name:

The name of the corporation shall be the Everglades Area Chamber of Commerce, Inc.

Article II

Objectives:

The objectives of the Everglades Area Chamber of Commerce, Inc. shall be to promote the civic, economic, and social welfare of the people of the Everglades Area of Eastern Collier County.

Article III

Membership:

All persons interested in the objectives of the Everglades Area Chamber of Commerce, Inc. shall be eligible for membership.

The procedure with respect to admission to and exercise of the privileges of membership shall be specified in the By-Laws.

Article IV

Government:

The government of the Everglades Area Chamber of Commerce, Inc. shall be vested in a Board of eleven (11) Directors, who shall be nominated and elected in such a manner as prescribed in the By-Laws.

Article V

Meetings:

The Annual Meeting of the Everglades Area Chamber of Commerce, Inc. shall be held at the regular meeting in January of each year, the place and hour to be designated by the Board of Directors.

The monthly meeting of the Everglades Area Chamber of Commerce, Inc. shall be held at the time and place designated by the Board of Directors.

Meetings of the membership shall be held at such other times as the President or the Board of Directors determine, or upon the written request of any member or members in good standing. Due notice shall be given each member. The notice shall contain a statement of the purpose of the meeting.

The Board of Directors shall hold a meeting no less than every two months throughout the fiscal year.

Article VI

Referenda:

Upon the request in writing of twenty-five percent of the members in good standing, the Board of Directors shall, or upon it's own initiative, submit a question to the members for a mail referendum vote; the ballot for such a vote to be is to be accompanied by briefs stating both sides of the question. When so stated in the request, action taken therein by the membership shall be final.

Article VII

Funds:

The corporation shall have the power to purchase, sell, lease or mortgage real estate, to incur debts, to borrow money, and may enter into approved contracts furthering the purpose of the Everglades Area Chamber of Commerce, Inc.

Dissolution:

On the dissolution of the Everglades Area Chamber of Commerce, Inc., any funds remaining shall be distributed to one or more regularly organized and qualified charitable, educational, scientific, or philanthropic Organizations to be selected by the Board of Directors. No part of said funds shall be distributed to members of the Everglades Area Chamber of Commerce, Inc.

Amendments to this Constitution have been made in accordance with proper procedure and are duly enacted this 13th day of December, 1993.

On February 22, 1965, the Collier Development Corporation leased the land at the intersection of Highway 41 and 29 to the Board of County Commissioners, Collier County, Florida for the purpose of constructing, maintaining and operating a Welcome Station. In September 1965, The Board of County Commissioners assigned a 40 year lease to the Everglades Chamber of Commerce and our Welcome Station evolved from dream to reality.

An early member of the Chamber was The Captain's Table Restaurant that used to be a train depot complete with restaurant and rooms. Today, the Captain's Table is a resort with an excellent restaurant, dining room, lounge, banquet facilities, chickee bar, rooms, villas, condos, conference rooms, tennis courts, pool, marina, boat ramp and docks.
